Woz Way

San Jose

In part of the San Jose Children Discovery Museum, the Woz Way bridge was built in 1990. We used a rendering from our plans and expanded it over the 100 foot length structure. The blue glaze was applied over an 8x8 white glazed tile, the relief creating each bird, however the bridge would expand up to 2’’ while in direct sunlight.

We were told it wasn’t possible to use a thinset method without an installation failure, and our ideas how to do so were challenged at the time. But, the true test is time itself, as each tile still holds to this day. The balance of art and science achieved.
